oh ic. i am just wondering where other fly fisherman are from. i got a feeling that fly fishing in HK should be very different from other countries. If he is in HK, i can probably ask him for inform ...

I am now living in HK after spending 20 odd years in South Africa where I'd picked up fly fishing. Been fly fishing both in New Zealand and Australia. Most of my experience have been restricted to trouts in lakes and streams, plus a small bit of salt.

Here in HK, I have had good results in fish ponds in Lau Fau Shan. Been to Dongguan with the lures guys catching bass with my flies. All the fun I have had.

Have to agree with kfd that fly fishing can be promoted locally, it will take quite some time though!

flyfisher, how are you doing in the wild? i mean outside of the paid ponds.. just wanna know more information on wild species

In South Africa, we have a national team attending Fly fishing Championship/Competitions around the world. There are lots of trout streams, rivers, and dams and are mostly privately owned. Some in very remote area. Yellow fish are also caught during the warmer months.

Sailfish, GTs and other species have been caught on flies in salt. Bass, Tiger fish as well as Nile perch in rivers.

Here I have had successful catches (not much) in reservoir on Lantau, but have not yet try the others. Find it quite difficult as I believe one needs to know where fish gathers.

must be awesome for fishing and hunting in south africa

do you go fishing on the weekends or weekdays? thinking of arranging for a gathering by the end of this month as i should be able to sneak out for fishing for a bit...

The Yellow Fish in S.Africa is a fresh water fish found in rivers. They take flies as much like trouts, and can weight in over 3 kgs. Good fighting fish in general.

I can go fishing any time any day as am not working. Will pm you my contact details.

Sorry for the late reply. No I don't live in HK. I'm Singaporean now in Mainland China Shanghai.
I started flyfishing in 1997 in Melbourne Australia and tying maybe 2003.

Information wise you could probably ask kfd or flyfisher as they are in HK. There is another buddy of mine Agent X whom I know personally and has just moved to HK recently. Maybe you can ask him for some tips. He is a great caster. I'm always scolded by him for my lousy casting. Haha.
I have been promoting flyfishing as a sport in Mainland China mainly through forums like these but of course everything in Chinese.
Its easier for me to type english than chinese though. Although I do speak cantonese but I can't type or write cantonese at all.
