sorry ZZ that I have to type english as I still cant find the right cantonese input fit my need...
my saltwater fly fishing experience is still very limited. Started off using natural looking fly to flashy one, then now I'm back using realistic one again.
If you are looking to fly fish in the salt, dun expect to be as exciting as done in Sheung Shui or you'd be dissappointed. You can start it with grunter "釘公", they will basically attack anything from the size of 8. The best size of fly I think would be 10 and 12. I used surface popper/pencial becasue the little splashes excited me. There buggers can be easily found in shallow area with sand/rumble bottom. Retriving is constant slow. I've caught a yellow fin bream on this method too.
Next easy one I would say is gaint herring aka ladyfish. The biggest one I caught(not landed) is 70-80cm. Again, I'm excitment oriented, so I always use top water flies, Lipped Popper size 1 this time. I believe any minnow type flies would work. Retriving for top water flies is slow, stop and slow. Minnow flies is constant medium speed.
As for seabass, I started to have luck with them, even there's no hook up yet. Half and Half with chart. green back and white body is by far the best one. I had many bass followed and serveral of missed strikes. You will have to try different retrival method. None is constantly working. My experience with seabass ended few weeks ago as I need to attend more to my kids AND my spot was destroyed by factory poisonning!
I also had a few followed by 火點. They are very curious of whatever passing thru. Dunno what will make them strike yet.
Hope this will help. Come with me when the summer starts. |
