To be honest we don't have much of a perference of the size as the a big kingfish will have no problems swallowing a big squid. The bigger in size also reduces the chance of been pick out by those little pickers. It is just the area of where we catch the squid hold more smaller size ones. p.s. Over here we call them "King Candy" as the kingfish cannot resist these yummy little live squids.

LOL, king candy! Interesting!
Usually what's the depth for they bite the bait? 15meters? How can you keep the bait in that depth without sinking to the bottom?

The ones we got were around 10 – 12 metres but generally we use the sounder to locate their usually depth on that day. There are two methods we use to present the bait at the correct depth. First one is just tie a heavy sinker and drop it all the way down the bottom, then wind it back up to your desired depth (this requires you to know how much line your reel retrieve for one turn). The second one requires a downrigger, which sometimes I use it especially when trolling at speed. However, most of the time I’m lazy so I just use the first method.

I use a Scotty Laketroller for my downrigger as it is smalland compact enough for kayak.
