I tested the Helios and i quite like it.  However, the skinny butt section and guides don't inspire much confidence.  At the end of the day I opted for the Boron MXII along with a Z-axis.  No regrets.  You can blitz a ton of line out even with a bad backcast provided there is not too much slack in there.  Another friend brought an Xi3 along for the trip and that's a beauty too.

Let me know how you like the Hydros when you get it.  I'm sure it's one heck of a saltwater rod.

One of the dream fish of mind - Bonefish

and quite achievable too without refinancing the house!  if you can get about 10 guys to form a group, it'll cost you about HK$6 to 7 thousand for five and a half days of solid flats fishing.  plane ticket not included.  this would cover all the meals.  2 people to a cabin.  beer not included.

It's fish til you drop over there.  after dinner with the boat anchored over a channel you can jig for trevallies, bass, coral trout, dogtooth, etc, etc.  When you get tired, just drop a sinker in with a piece of meat.  The next morning, it is off to the flats again, or other activities like popping should you desire to do so.

Helios seems too expensive to me. I've got an Z-Axis #6
and it's really a nice rod for casting. Orvis is now promting
their Helios & Hydros with a free large arbor reel. Sounds
very attractive.

Cool! I wished I have fished there yesterday.
Is there any seasonal factors i.e. weather / school of fish?

z-axis #6 is the perfect rod for bonefish!  i was using my MX #6 most of the time until i broke it on day 4 when I hooked something big.  Actually it wasn't the fish that caused it... I suspect there was a fracture somewhere.  The day before I was using them to cast heavy charlies and gotchas on bonefish and the wind was pretty strong.  due to blustery conditions, it took quite a few knocks from the charlies.

for flats you need only 6 and 8.  A nice compromise would be #7.  for surf, go with the 9 and 10.  I hooked my 5kg trigger on #6 and crab pattern and boy, what a ride!

The weather is pretty screwed up these days.  We were hit by bad weather this year.  Other than that, if fly fishing is your intention, a good time would be in feb, march, and april when the monsoon is over.  most days it is calm and the wind is mild.

Ohh I feel sorry the MX was broken. Wish you claim the part soon.
Bonefish is really powerful compare with it's size.

I guess I have to plan a trip next year.
By the way, another upper Pitt river fishing
trip was planned next year during summer
holiday. That's why I wish to have a #9 for
steelhead/salmon & saltwater fishes.
