As a owner of both reels...I guess I am obligated to give some comments (haha)....
Smoothness: The BJ 85 is more smooth in action then the Hechi 85 but that additional smoothness does not help much --> that means both reels are smooth enough
Reel core: The Hechi 85 is intended for Hechi so the reel core is very small and you will need to add quite a bit of backing line to make the reel core size good for Maeuchi. One drawback of using backing line is the additional thickness in the line itself will block the air flow through the vents of the reel core. Maybe it is only my perception, but I really think the line dry up better on the BJ 85 than on the Hechi 85 and as a result, the line on BJ 85 is better maintained and get the least coil effect.
Weight: The BJ 85 should be around 30 grams lighter than the Hechi 85
Price: Hechi 85 should be around $400 cheaper than the BJ?
Appearance: I think Hechi 85 looks more classic and more unique coz it is less popular than the BJ....
