   If the reel is too smooth the line tends to get messy during the process of setting up your rod as you need to pull out the line....I think that's pretty easy to solve: either practice to get used to it, or just pull out say 20 feet of line first during which you can use your other hand to control the reel (then you will have enough line to set up the rod without needing to pull out any more line)
